In a thrilling qualifying session at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, McLaren showcased exceptional performance, securing a front-row lockout. Lando Norris clinched pole position with a lap time of 1:15.096, narrowly edging out teammate Oscar Piastri by 0.084 seconds.

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen secured third position for Red Bull Racing, trailing Piastri by 0.301 seconds. George Russell delivered a strong performance for Mercedes, claiming fourth place. Notably, Yuki Tsunoda of Racing Bulls secured an impressive fifth position, while Alex Albon placed sixth for Williams.

Ferrari’s Challenges

Ferrari faced unexpected difficulties during the session. Charles Leclerc qualified seventh, while Lewis Hamilton, making his debut with the team, managed only eighth place. Hamilton’s adaptation to the new car appeared challenging, as he was nearly nine-tenths of a second off Norris’s pace.

The qualifying session also highlighted the performances of several rookies. Isack Hadjar narrowly missed entering the top ten, securing 11th place. Jack Doohan qualified 14th for Alpine, and Gabriel Bortoleto, the 2024 F2 champion, secured 15th position in his debut for Kick Sauber. Ollie Bearman faced technical issues, unable to complete any laps due to a gearbox problem.
