Toto Wolff has weighed in on departing Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton’s remarks, in which Hamilton played down his prospects in qualifying against teammate George Russell throughout the 2024 season.
Following George Russell’s dominant performance over Lewis Hamilton in qualifying, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has responded to Hamilton’s candid remarks hinting at ongoing struggles against his younger teammate. With Russell securing a commanding 7-1 lead in their head-to-head qualifying battles thus far in the 2024 season, Hamilton conceded, “I don’t anticipate being ahead of George in qualifying particularly this year.”
Hamilton’s acknowledgment comes amidst his impending departure from Mercedes, with the seven-time champion set to join Ferrari from 2025 onwards on a multi-year deal. When questioned about Hamilton’s comments and the potential underlying concerns, Wolff remarked, “All drivers are a bit skeptical at times.”
