After a hectic Sprint Qualifying session, Max Verstappen emerged victorious against McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, securing pole position for the Sprint in Austria.
In a thrilling showdown at the Red Bull Ring, Max Verstappen asserted his dominance with a blistering lap time of 1m 04.686s, edging out McLaren’s Lando Norris by a razor-thin margin of 0.093s to clinch pole position for Saturday’s Sprint. The Red Bull driver’s performance under pressure highlighted his championship-caliber skill.
Norris, showing impressive pace, settled for second place, while McLaren’s second driver, Piastri, secured a solid third position. George Russell piloted his Mercedes to fourth, with Carlos Sainz of Ferrari rounding out the top five, setting the stage for an exciting race day.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton faced a challenging session, qualifying sixth alongside Sainz. Sergio Perez, in the second Red Bull, claimed seventh, followed by the Alpine duo of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly in eighth and ninth respectively. Charles Leclerc endured a frustrating outing, failing to set a timed lap and starting from tenth position.
Further down the grid, the competition was intense as Kevin Magnussen narrowly missed out on advancing to the final session, finishing in eleventh place for Haas. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso had a tough day, qualifying in twelfth and thirteenth, while Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull Kick Sauber secured fourteenth. Logan Sargeant delivered a commendable performance for Williams, taking fifteenth ahead of his teammate, Alex Albon.
Daniel Ricciardo faced disappointment with an early exit in sixteenth place, unable to progress beyond the first segment of Sprint Qualifying. Nico Hulkenberg endured a similar fate for Haas in seventeenth, followed by Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu for Kick Sauber in eighteenth and twentieth respectively. Alex Albon found himself in nineteenth, completing the grid lineup.
