In a stunning revelation, Toto Wolff has admitted that Lewis Hamilton has the potential to clinch a record-breaking F1 championship with Ferrari. As Hamilton enters his final year with Mercedes, the F1 legend prepares to join the sport’s most illustrious team.

Wolff, aware of Hamilton’s capabilities, acknowledges that his future rival could find glory in Italy. “If Ferrari is able to give Lewis a competitive car, he can win a world championship,” Wolff told the PA news agency. “There is no doubt about that.”

Reflecting on their time together, Wolff expressed his enduring respect and personal bond with Hamilton. “I will always have a personal relationship with Lewis and I will look back at the great times, professionally and personally. When Lewis moves to Ferrari, he becomes a competitor, but I will always wish him happy days.”

Before Hamilton signed his new Mercedes contract, Wolff admitted he couldn’t imagine seeing him in Ferrari red. However, Hamilton later confirmed his intention to leave Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025. Addressing his earlier comment, Wolff explained, “He said he was going to stay and then he decided to go. But people change their minds and circumstances change, and you have to respect that. Today’s opinion might be different tomorrow, and I have no hard feelings.”

Hamilton has not won an F1 grand prix since 2021, and Mercedes has struggled with three years of misfortune, remaining winless since George Russell’s 2022 victory in Brazil. Hamilton’s 7-1 qualifying deficit to teammate Russell this year has added to his frustrations, particularly at the recent Monaco Grand Prix.

As Hamilton prepares to leave Mercedes, he faces the challenge of ending Max Verstappen’s dominance. But next year, with Ferrari, a new chapter awaits for Hamilton—a chance to chase history and add another championship to his illustrious career.
