After three seasons of pursuing Max Verstappen, seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is gearing up to join Ferrari with a strategy aimed at defeating the Red Bull star.
Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has been chasing Max Verstappen for three seasons and is now preparing a unique strategy to regain his championship form. As he gets ready to switch from Mercedes to Ferrari at the end of this season, Hamilton has shared insights into his mental approach and his hopes for the future.
In an appearance on the popular YouTube show Hot Ones, Hamilton revealed a mental technique he uses to stabilize his mindset during races. “I think it’s easier to hunt,” Hamilton explained to host Sean Evans while sampling increasingly spicy chicken wings. “If you’re chasing and make mistakes, you fall back but can regain ground. But if you’re leading and have a car failure, it’s much more nerve-wracking. I prefer chasing. I picture myself further ahead, chasing my own car. That keeps me focused.”
Hamilton, 39, has not won the title since 2020, with Verstappen dominating the grid. He hopes that his move to Ferrari will reignite his championship prospects and help him secure a record-breaking eighth title. However, he knows the competition will be fierce, not only from Verstappen but also from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
In the same interview, Hamilton subtly criticized Mercedes’ W15 car, admitting he feels in conflict with the machine during races. This comes after team principal Toto Wolff promised fundamental changes following a disappointing 2023 season. Wolff remains optimistic, stating, “We just got to chip away performance by performance. Our goal is to fight for wins and podiums in the short term.”
As Mercedes gears up for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, a venue where Hamilton has triumphed seven times, the British driver is hopeful for a strong performance. His first F1 win came in Montreal in 2007, and he looks to channel that success this weekend.
Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari marks a significant chapter in his illustrious career, and fans eagerly anticipate whether this bold move will propel him back to the forefront of F1.
