During the weekend of the Hungarian Grand Prix, a driver was disqualified for a technical violation, according to confirmation from the FIA.

Saturday at the Hungaroring was a rollercoaster of excitement and drama, delivering unforgettable moments in both Formula 1 and Formula 2. The day’s most striking story came from Red Bull, which faced a nightmare qualifying session. Sergio Perez’s crash into the barriers led to an early exit in Q1, marking his second consecutive premature departure following a similar mishap at Silverstone. Adding to Red Bull’s troubles, Max Verstappen found himself outpaced by his McLaren rivals. Lando Norris seized pole position, while Oscar Piastri secured a front-row lockout for McLaren, showcasing their formidable pace.

In Formula 2, the sprint race was equally riveting. Mercedes star Andrea Kimi Antonelli surged into the lead ahead of Richard Verschoor, thanks to fresh soft tyres. However, Antonelli’s tyres soon suffered degradation, forcing him to pit. This allowed Verschoor to reclaim the lead and appear set for a comfortable victory.

But the excitement took a sharp turn when Verschoor was disqualified due to a technical infringement. The rear plank on his Trident car was found to be below the minimum thickness required, breaching article 3.4.3 of the technical regulations. The FIA clarified in an official statement: “Having considered the matter extensively, the stewards determined that the rear plank of car 22 [Verschoor] was below the minimum thickness required and is therefore in breach of article 3.4.3 of the technical regulations.”

As a result, the race win was awarded to Invicta Racing’s Kush Maini, marking his first career victory in F2. Meanwhile, Haas-bound Ollie Bearman was involved in a dramatic three-abreast clash with Jak Crawford and Juan Manuel Correa. Despite the thrilling wheel-to-wheel action, all three drivers emerged unscathed, with Bearman finishing in P10 after the intense battle.

The Hungaroring delivered a day of unexpected twists and electrifying moments, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next round of action in both series.
