A group of Formula One teams, including Ferrari, are pursuing Red Bull.
Ferrari’s team principal Fred Vasseur has issued a stern call for flawless performance from his team as they navigate the fiercely competitive Formula 1 landscape. After a disheartening double DNF in Canada, where neither Charles Leclerc nor Carlos Sainz reached Q3 for the first time since the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, Vasseur emphasized the razor-thin margins at the top.
The Montreal setback followed a promising Monaco Grand Prix, where Ferrari secured a one-three finish led by Leclerc. However, in Canada, Leclerc’s race was marred by engine troubles, while Sainz retired after a spin involving Alex Albon.
Vasseur highlighted the extreme closeness of the field, with as many as eight cars often separated by mere tenths of a second. “If you don’t have a perfect weekend, then you can’t be in front,” Vasseur explained. He pointed out that even the smallest mistake could push a team out of contention, underscoring the necessity for error-free operations.
Despite the difficulties in Montreal, Vasseur acknowledged some progress, stressing the need to address individual issues meticulously. He noted the challenge of racing “by default”—a strategy doomed against such formidable competition.
As Ferrari heads to the Spanish Grand Prix, Vasseur’s demand for perfection remains clear. With Red Bull’s dominance in sight, Ferrari’s quest for precision and excellence is crucial in their bid to climb back to the top.
