Carlos Sainz was pleased with his charging effort during the Mexico City Grand Prix qualifying session, which saw the Ferrari driver leaving the race in his wake as he took pole position.

Oscar Piastri of McLaren won the third free practice session for the Mexico City Grand Prix on Saturday. In a far more subdued effort, he was followed by teammate Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.

A heavy accident for George Russell raised concerns during a practice session that was extended from 60 to 90 minutes to test Pirelli’s 2025 prototype tire, while Carlos Sainz led the timesheets during the second practice before the Mexico City Grand Prix.

In a session that included a number of rookies and a few red lights, Mercedes driver George Russell led the way from Ferrari opponent Carlos Sainz and RB’s Yuki Tsunoda to win the first practice for the Mexico City Grand Prix.

As title challenger Lando Norris lost P2 to Carlos Sainz in the closing laps, Max Verstappen returned to winning ways in the Sprint at the US Grand Prix. The Dutchman secured the win from pole position to increase his point total.

At the United States Grand Prix, Max Verstappen secured his first pole position in any format since Austria, while Sergio Perez was eliminated in the second half of Sprint Qualifying. It was a two-part session for the Red Bull garage.

Prior to Friday afternoon’s Sprint Qualifying, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz led teammate Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the only practice session of the three days held at the Circuit of The Americas. The Sprint format is returning for the United States Grand Prix.
