Lewis Hamilton thinks Formula 1 leaders should consider changing the Monaco Grand Prix to make it more exciting for viewers.

Lewis Hamilton has urged Formula 1 bosses to devise a “new formula” for the Monaco Grand Prix, aiming to tackle the race’s reputation for being ‘boring.’
Critics have increasingly pointed out the lack of overtaking opportunities on the iconic circuit, with only one significant passing spot at the sea-front chicane. As cars grow larger, navigating the narrow streets of Monaco becomes even more challenging, reducing the excitement.
In the past, there have been discussions about re-routing the track to enhance overtaking chances. Hamilton, a three-time winner at Monte Carlo, has now called on F1 leaders to rethink the entire weekend format for the sport’s most renowned race.
“Monaco hasn’t changed much over the years, but the cars keep getting bigger, increasing the risk of hitting barriers,” Hamilton explained to the media, including RacingNews365. “I wish the roads were wider, but that’s unlikely to happen due to the city’s layout.”
Hamilton suggested introducing special tyres for the Monaco race to encourage more pit stops and variability. “It’s usually a one-stop race, so maybe having tyres specifically for this race could mix things up,” he proposed.
He emphasized the need for F1 bosses to innovate. “They should develop a unique approach for this weekend to keep it from becoming monotonous. You might find yourself dozing off during Sunday’s race, so creating something new would be great.”
Despite the growing popularity of the Miami and Las Vegas Grands Prix, Hamilton dismissed the idea that they could replace Monaco as the crown jewel of F1. He highlighted the enduring prestige of Monaco, along with Silverstone and Monza, which also featured on the first world championship calendar in 1950.
“Monaco will always stand on its own. It may not always provide the spectacle, but it remains one of the sport’s crown jewels,” Hamilton affirmed.
The call for change underscores the need to balance tradition with evolving dynamics in Formula 1, ensuring that iconic races like Monaco continue to captivate fans worldwide.
