According to reliable sources, Valtteri Bottas is poised to rejoin Williams for the 2025 F1 season, taking over the seat from Logan Sargeant.

Valtteri Bottas appears set for a homecoming at Williams for the 2025 F1 season, with sources confirming that the Finnish driver will replace Logan Sargeant. Reports from Australian outlet Speedcafe and Finnish publication VSabladet have been corroborated by PlanetF1.com, indicating that Bottas is in advanced talks with Williams.
The speculation gained momentum when Bottas was seen having coffee with Williams team principal James Vowles during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix weekend at Imola. Bottas played down the meeting, describing it as a routine paddock interaction. “It’s part of being on the free market; you want to check what’s out there. It’s pretty normal,” he told media, including PlanetF1.com.
Bottas, who began his F1 career with Williams from 2013 to 2016 before moving to Mercedes and then Alfa Romeo, hinted at ongoing negotiations and expected updates soon. “I think these next weeks, things will start to move. That’s the target,” he said, leaving the door open for more discussions with Vowles.
Having transitioned to Alfa Romeo in 2022 as the team prepared to rebrand as Sauber, Bottas now looks poised to return to where it all started. With Nico Hulkenberg already signed for 2025 and Carlos Sainz targeted for the other seat, Bottas and his teammate Zhou Guanyu are exploring their options.
When asked about the Speedcafe report, a Williams spokesperson responded, “There are always rumours in F1 and we aren’t paying any attention to them. We have an exciting driver line-up and our focus is on the very tight midfield battle this year. We always have an eye on the future and are assessing our options for 2025 and beyond, but our focus is on delivering maximum success in 2024.”
As Bottas navigates his potential return to Williams, the team’s strategic planning for the future remains closely watched by F1 enthusiasts.
