In a dramatic showdown at the Berlin E-Prix, Edoardo Mortara stunned spectators by clinching pole position in Formula E qualifying on Saturday. The Mahindra driver emerged victorious in the final duel, edging out Stoffel Vandoorne from DS Penske. Behind them, Jean-Eric Vergne and Sergio Sette Camara secured starting positions for the race.
However, the qualifying session wasn’t without its ups and downs. In Group A, Mortara dominated with an impressive performance, setting the pace ahead of Jordan King, Jehan Daruvala, and Antonio Felix da Costa. Despite a brief setback where Mortara grazed the wall, he managed to maintain his momentum and secure the fastest time. Meanwhile, disappointingly, Mitch Evans and Jake Dennis of Jaguar and Andretti respectively, struggled to make an impact, landing in sixth and eleventh place.
Over in Group B, it was Lucas di Grassi who showcased his prowess, leading the pack ahead of Nick Cassidy, Max Günther, and Jake Hughes. Despite a close call with the wall, Günther secured an impressive second place. Stoffel Vandoorne and Sergio Sette Camara also delivered strong performances, rounding up the top positions.
However, it was a forgettable session for Andretti, with Norman Nato finishing at the bottom of the pack. Nonetheless, Mortara’s unexpected pole position and Mahindra’s strong showing mark an exciting turn of events in the Formula E circuit, setting the stage for an electrifying race in Berlin.
