Max Günther Sets the Pace in Berlin Formula E Free Practice Session

German Formula E driver Max Günther, representing Maserati, stole the spotlight during Saturday morning’s second free practice session in Berlin. Günther’s lightning-fast performance, just before the session’s end, outpaced Lucas di Grassi (ABT) and fellow countryman Pascal Wehrlein in the Porsche.

The morning session, set against a backdrop of slightly hazy conditions, commenced at 8 o’clock. Initially, the track saw little action, but Günther quickly asserted dominance with the fastest lap, trailed by Edo Mortara and Pascal Wehrlein. Wehrlein’s Porsche team had worked tirelessly overnight to rectify technical issues from Friday’s 1st free practice, ensuring his car was race-ready for Saturday.

However, the session wasn’t without its share of drama. Envision replacement driver Joel Eriksson encountered trouble, while his teammate and Formula E debutant Paul Aron showcased a commendable performance, securing fourth place early on. As the session progressed, Lucas di Grassi surged ahead with the fastest lap, closely followed by Oliver Rowland, Norman Nato, and Jake Dennis.

Yet, excitement peaked when, after 20 minutes, a red flag halted proceedings. Dan Ticktum’s minor brush with the wall at turn 4 dislodged an advertising banner onto the track, necessitating a brief pause before resuming the action. The session’s duration was extended accordingly.

In the final stretch, drivers pushed boundaries, with Sergio Sette Camara narrowly avoiding collision with Stoffel Vandoorne. However, it was local hero Günther who stole the show, reclaiming the lead, while Wehrlein secured third place.

Günther’s stellar performance electrified the Berlin circuit, setting the stage for an exhilarating race ahead.
